    After the massive success of the last thread (600 views in the last 12 hours 0_0 wow) I thought I would make another one. I recommend reading the first one if you haven't already because this thread is a comparison to that one ( https://forum.battlebay.net/threads/i-scrapped-100-common-items-this-is-what-i-got.9703/ )
    This experiment would have to be done over to see if this method of achieving rare/epic/legendary items was worth your time. So I scrapped another 100 items, and this is what I got. For each line I will have a +/-/= to compare it to the other thread. I only used red items in this one, the last one I had a few blues.

    4824 Common Parts (=)
    130 Common Power Cells (+1)

    102 Uncommon Parts (+6)
    8 Uncommon Power Cells (-5)

    21 Rare Parts (+14)
    6 Rare power Cells (+5) (wow)
    5 Rare Red Item Pieces (=)
    3 Rare Yellow Item Pieces (-1)
    1 Rare Blue Item Pieces (=)
    2 Rare Green Item Pieces (+2)

    0 Epic Parts (=)
    0 Epic Power Cells (-1)
    1 Epic Red Item Piece (+1)
    0 Epic Yellow Item Pieces (=)
    0 Epic Blue Item Pieces (=)
    0 Epic Green Item Pieces (=)

    0 Legendary Parts (=)

    1 Legendary Power Cells (+1)
    0 Legendary Red Item Pieces (=)
    0 Legendary Yellow Item Pieces (=)
    0 Legendary Blue Item Pieces (=)
    0 Legendary Green Item Pieces (-1)

    A couple of pictures of the finds:

    So here's what I found interesting:
    1. I got the exact amount of common parts! I thought this would be the one thing that changed the most, but nope! Intriguing
    2. No Legendary Green piece this time, but I did get a legendary powercell (which is very nice cause I can actually use that :p)
    3. I got 6 rare power cell's this time around! Last time I only got 1. This shows the chances of getting rare items is much higher than I thought.
    4. I got 11 rare item pieces this time, which is 1 more than last time. This solidifies the idea that you can get a large profit just from these items!
    62 000 x 11 = 682 000 or 182 000 gold profit! and that's not even counting everything else!
    5. This time I found an epic red piece! Which makes the profit of this experiment EVEN HIGHER!
    6. Once again red items were the most common ones to find, this is more evidence that there is a higher chance to get the same color rare piece when scrapping. I might do the same experiment with other color items to further examine this.

    Since the probability is calculated on the server-side, I am sure the devs will notice these threads and likely reduce the probability soon. This is a fun method for the f2p/p2p players to explore. There are a lot of grin in this one so leave it to let the players enjoy something will little hope.

    I planned to try this one out last night but 400 rare parts and epic piece showed up in the shop. Oh well, will try soon. :D

    Are you only scrapping red items?
    If so, getting 5/11 (46%) from an expected 19/35 (54%) is not exactly proving anything.

    Unless my guess to how colour piece probability works is wrong.

    I will scrap 100 greens and tell you what i get. That should settle the red = red , green= green debate.
    But in my experience, no matter what you scrap you have a high chance of getting reds.

    Getting very close to the 19/35 percentage is quite a difinetive proof of the method (even though this is just a part of the experiment). The truth is I got 45% red when if it was completely random I should've gotten 25% (4 different colors). My question now is; did I get more red because red is 19/35, or because I was scrapping red items? Maybe both.

    Ha, well for your sake then this will be the last post ;) I was just doing what others wanted me too/I thought was intriguing.
    I'm not sure if the probability will be changed that drastically though if at all. I believe now that this method does return an effective profit. But I still had to buy 100 items, and scrap them to get anything, I feel as if I got very lucky both of these times. I assume most players would rather battle than scrap common items all day even if it returned a profit. Either way, I don't want to create conflict, just make interesting threads for the community. Thanks for the reply :)

    Huh...interesting, maybe it doesn't factor in the color of the item you are scrapping. Thanks for doing that

    Developers are lazy, and love to generalize. So that makes perfect sense :)
    It's simpler (and way shorter) to make a scraper-function that does not depend on the color of the item. Simpler solutions are easier to maintain over time, so as a developer you want to do the simplest thing you can get away with. You never go for the advanced solution with tons of edge cases unless you have to.
    They probably just do some kind of formula like:
    Code:
    item_base_mod = {common: 0.05, uncommon: 0.15, rare: 0.3, epic: 0.5, legendary: 1.0}[item.type];

    item_level_mod = item.level * 0.05;

    loot_worth = item_base_mod * item_level_mod * rand(1, 100);

    my_loot = generate_loot(loot_worth);
    Just guessing the weights and functions here of course, but some kind of setup were a REALLY lucky scraping of a common item might end up with the same loot_worth as a really really bad scraping of a legendary item.
    Give the worth to a loot generator function, and tada.. out comes some loot that depend on some worth, and not the input item directly. It's simple, and it's easy to maintain and adjust.

    Then the generate_loot function has weights for all the loot with how common they are and their "cost" in worth.. red pieces are more common than blue pieces, and green, etc..

    i was curious to try it and this is what i got

    4860 common parts / 129 cells
    84 uncommon parts / 19 cells
    14 rare parts / 6 cells
    0 epic parts / 0 cells
    0 leg parts / 0 cells

    8 rare pieces
    0 epic pieces
    0 legendary pieces

    so yeah... mostly luck.

    Thanks for posting! It's interesting how the common parts/cells are very close every time. Maybe that's intentional...or maybe not :p 8 rare items seems more realistic than my 10-11.

    Something I've noticed is that the loot gets better than this if the items you scrap have been leveled up.

    I scrapped a lvl 13 tri-torp and got 4 rare item pieces and 1 epic item piece, all red. This was a week or so ago, so I didn't screenshot it to post here, but thought maybe the information would be useful.

    I assume those tri torps were common. If so that's quite lucky! Leveling up the items being scrapping them has been mentioned but I'm not sure if it will produce a result to make it worth it. It costs 17 common parts to scrap it, and you only get 8 more common parts (minimum) when you scrap the lvl 2 item. So if you wanted common parts, I don't think you would get any more if you leveled it up once. However, I tested this on 3 lvl 2 common items and I got 2 rare pieces from them. So I might try this in the future :)

    Its close because the possible outcomes are 45 & 57(?), roll a random of those two 100 times and odds are the results will be almost identical. Not alot of wiggle room for surprise.

    It was uncommon. I should have mentioned that I guess. Still seemed like a nice haul tho.
