ive been debating this with my guild and come to the conclusion that bandaids are normally a poor choice but I'd love to get some numbers to back this.

With the introduction of battle logs you can see how much it actually heals you and often it is less than you think. Over 10 games(without fixer on my team) my bandaid healed me 380 on average. Compare that my trusty shield that gives me 600hp and it's clear what is best for me. If you also weigh in all the games with a fixer on my side and the times where I survive a big hit (mine, torp) that would one shot me that I now survive and I certainly know my preference.

This might be down to my play style and bandaid level but still...

If you are in doubt yourself please do the math and post here what you normally heal and your boat type.

My bandaid heals on average 500-700 hp per game so it's quite useful for me

You also need to keep in mind the amount your bandage getc used in a battle. If your tactics makes you die quickly or if you keep full health until late into the game, then the bandage wouldn't be used as much as it could.
To optimize tof useage of the bandage, take a risk and loose some damage at the start of the game for a quick shot on the enemy team. Then back away from the front lines and let your damage heal you as you help your team.
The way you play the game determines the use fullness of your items

But if you're a shooter, please stay away from bandages since it promotes camping

Ya, if you play only to optimize the potential of your bandage (camping) then the rest of your items aren't getting their max potential

On matches I survive it heals 1200 - 1800 with outliers at close to zero where I take little damage, or 2000+ on those matches that take much longer.
T4 rare at about 70 every 5 seconds

I've got a lvl 21 bandage that heals anywhere from 600 to 1900 a game. I don't have duplicates of enough shields to match that

@Captain Gilligan may remember this one from yesterday;)
I took a huge hit in the opening seconds of the game, I think I was down to <500hp.
After a minute or so of some very conservative play(once we'd very quickly dispensed with Ssense when he came charging in to finish me off) my bandage had me back in the game.
    I couldn't do without it.

I don't have the space for a Big Shield. I have a regular shield, Rare 7, that gives 290 health. I have a Rare 10 Bandage that heals for 30 every 5. I had already done the match before the update came out, but decided to check my history anyway.

On average, I get healed for almost the exact value of the shield, meaning I usually don't die for about a full minute after taking damage. Sometimes it's a lot less, on the matches where I get bursted down quickly by critical hits and lucky torpedoes. Other times, it's a lot more, when I'm able to get behind cover or dodge/block a lot of shots. I keep the Bandage on not really because it's slightly better on average, but because of the peace of mind it gives when I'm brought low and don't have a Fixer. If I take 2000 damage at once and just barely make it behind a rock, I like knowing that I just might make it. Sometimes, I really do make it.

Mine epic t2, heal 60 every 5 sec, or nearly 800 a minute. I prefer it over shield atm =P

Epic lvl 10. 40hp/5sec. I run it on my speeder.

Bandage is meant for speeders and defenders IMO.
