When upgrading the Defender from 3 to 4 you lose significant speed. It makes me not want to upgrade. Not cool.

This happens every upgrade on every boat, with the exception of the upgrade from mk6 to mk7. Just add a turbo and you will level up your turbo as you upgrade mk's thoughout your time of playing battle bay

I see that now. I still think it's a poor decision to make it that way. It loses half the reasons to upgrade. Why upgrade if you have to fill the new spot you earned by upgrading with something to compensate for what you lost by upgrading?

"Supposedly" it is because with more item capacity the weight of the item slows down the boat... lol

I think the upgrade from mk3 defender to mk4 defender is really, really small. You just get a little bit more hp, no extra weapon slots, and you become ALOT slower. Not sure if you could even call it an upgrade with the amount of speed lost

Yea but you get more slot spaces so it balances out

Haha, yeah, I agree. It would be nice if speed just didn't diminish in the first place. You end up spending so much time relying on the Turbo that if you ever take it off, the ship feels incredibly sluggish. The other items feel less useful, too, since there's no room for them. One slot is always filled with a Turbo, and we always need some defense or survivability item for the other slot. Going down the list of my battle log, every match has every player using nothing but Turbos, Bandages, and Shields. Not a single drop of Lube on any Rudders anywhere.

Well, there is a certain defender who is using rudder. And he happens to be one of the more popular players in this game.

That doesn't really make a difference. The vast majority of players don't (at least at 2k). When I was looking through my battle log, I actually found one match where 3 or 4 people were all using Lube. I was blown away, since almost every other match had the same situation as the above.

Between talents & your turbo becomming stronger its not that bad.

Starting speeds are high to not make low level games feel too painfully slow.

And its the same for every boat + a topic that hits the forum once a week. You will need to increase mk, both for hp & more item slots. Dont stress too much

I feel like the inverse of the relationship is actually true. If ships never slowed down, then the turbos would increase their speed drastically, and soon we would be trying to hit people moving really, really fast all the time.. Which is no fun. Just ask the overboost users. :p

So, the ships slow down to keep the turbo balanced imo.

Imagine no speed penalty for upgrading ships.

Now imagine a mk7 defender with all tier 5 epic turbos :oops:

I really wonder wish they would just remove Turbo and set a normal base speed. It's kind of annoying, I want to use other blue items but I also want to die. :(

Edit: Oh man, the typos... this should read:

You can search the forums, it's already been posted a few times. Mk 7 doesn't get any extra slots or points over Mk 6, but the ship stats actually go up slightly along with the normal HP buff.
