AF6B1163-9783-4004-9F51-4EC2A05C5F7F.jpeg Imagine you’re aiming at Ship “A” and and for some reason, the ship takes you off target and instead puts the Aim on ship “B”, whom you can’t even see, SMH.
It doesn’t matter what setting I use this always happens. This it too basic to be a problem. Then again devs hate being told what to do, sad.

    Target. Lock.

Plus there are "smart target" options you can turn off in the menu

Probably because you pointed the camera more towards that ship than the ship you were originally aiming at. When you point your camera far enough away from the enemy it will stop targeting him.

While this does happen, I agree with the OP that this is an issue. If an Unfriend is target locked and goes right past you, it doesn't matter how fast you turn to see them again, the system will target some other unfriend who is usually pretty far away. I also have been experiencing a lot of targeting issues where there is an Unfriend RIGHT IN FRONT of me, and the target will lock on one on the other side of the map. Needless to say, I am hit multiple times before I can get the target to lock on the Unfriend in front of me. I always use target lock and do not use sticky targets. I read recently that you can tap on the Unfriend you want to target, but I am having trouble remembering that in the 'Fog of War'.

The direction the ship is pointing does make the target change, and lock is the only way around it. The OP could also be referring to the situation where when the ship you are gunning for briefly goes out of view... then the turret quickly spins toward another boat, and many times even if it is behind a wall. I'd rather see target lock stay in the spot the ship disappeared than to immediately jump somewhere else.

I can confirm that auto lock wants to avoid close range players on the initial engagement. It's definitely purposeful, and it's been like that for as long as I can remember... at least back to 2017.... but I've never figured out a good explanation why the Devs want it to behave that way.... maybe as a benefit to Speeders?

Based off the pic you posted .. target lock would keep you trained on B .. the only time it doesn't work is when someone drives through your boat to the opposite side of you .. but there are times when you want to hit a low HP target that's out of sight with a mortar, so you'll want it focusing the target that's closest to where you're pointing your turret rather than someone you can directly see that's across the map.

If you want a special setting button for reading your mind as opposed to where you're pointing your turret ... then yeah, you're out of luck.
