This is a system I’ve been thinking about for gear based matchmaking. I don’t know how much of this has already been considered/used, but I figured I might as well throw it out there, and see if it helps generate some ideas.

Ships will be given a score based on four criteria.

    Damage Potential:
This gives each weapon a score based on its DPS (including crits and perks) and assumed accuracy (the devs should have data on what this might be). Then give the ship a score based on the total of equipped weapons.

This will ensure that players with a powerful and accurate burst damage weapon (such a legendary EC), won’t be matched against players that can’t match their damage.

    Hit Points and Defence:
    This is fairly self explanatory.

    Ship Type:
This would be a simple number used to fine tune different ship types and ship mks.

    Residual Items:
This covers all other items such as Yellows, Greens, and things like Turbo and Bandage (More on this later).

When these four values have been calculated, they would then be weighted, and combined to give the ship its final power score. The weighting would probably require some testing and fine tuning.

Importantly, this weighting needs to be different for each ship type (because a 9k hp Defender is not a match for a 9k hp Speeder).

Having the weighting be unique to each ship type allows for more precise balancing, and it allows for some simplification of the Residual value, since most ships of the same type will use similar items, so their usefulness on that ship will ‘generally’ be proportional.

Random Battle Bay player and tuber.

In a land far far away...
For the damage potential, wouldn't peeders and fixers have less potential damage compared to shooters?

Anyway, pretty good ideas. Let's hope the devs see this. :)

Kudos for coming up with some ideas.
Something needs to be done, events currently offer the best rewards in game, and is full of exploiters ruining the game for newer players.

Yes they would, which is why it’s important to weight the values by ship type.

A two weapon Speeder wouldn’t have as much potential as a 5 weapon Shooter, but almost certainly have more potential than a 2 weapon Shooter.
