    Should be pinned.
Update is a colossal fail - game is practically unplayable now. Just call it Frozen Bay because it’s like maneuvering on ice.

What really aggravates me, though, is being stuck with a L30 turbo, at L45, and the hundreds of rudders and lube I scrapped along the way, hoping for turbo each time.
Big torpedo and three stooges are useless except for splash damage. This game has a recent history of actually getting worse with each update, but this is unbelievable.

The boats turning sensitivity is equivelant to turning your aim view in first person shooter. Obviously it's the only factor in moving to cover and dodging. The turret agility is the only thing that factors in aiming, which I would keep at maximum because it's pretty much auto aim :D, but the ships turning sensitivity I would turn down maby just a notch to make it perfect for me. Sensitivity slider for ships turning sensitivity from 0% to 100% with 1% accuracy should make us all happy.

It’s not about what is ‘perfect for you’, it’s about what is balanced for the game. If we’re going to base this on what feels perfect for each of us, then I want a slider to turn my speed up 300% and turn my defence up to 6000, and why not turn my base hp up to 50k while I’m at it. That would be perfect for me, I’d zoom around wrecking everyone, and be unbeatable, but thankfully I don’t just get to mess with my ship’s attributes in the options menu, and neither should you.

Exactly this. These people simply don't understand the dynamics of the game and want whatever is good for their style of playing instead of actually developing skill. They're mostly low infamy newbs then have the gall to tell us veterans "if you don't like it leave" or "stop crying"

They simply don't understand what made this game what it is.

A slider that balances rudder and turret is an interesting idea. So if you go max rudder you will have minimum turret. I think most people would just keep it at 50/50 anyway but at least it allows for some individual customization

Yes, at this point the Devs are never going to be able to balance the ships without turning an entire ship class/classes against them.
And at the rate of past balancing updates it might be 2020 before they get it tweaked correctly, or when enough global launch players quit that nobody remembers anymore how the game used to be played.

First off, the point of the post was to clarify that the title of "MVP" was simply for forum moderation purposes (rather than the title signifying that they are agents of Rovio with the authority to speak on their behalf).

Otherwise, I missed the part where I singled anyone out. And, I agree with @TheAntiSnipe in that the OP would be difficult to moderate.

I was simply saying that the original post - with this much inflammatory language [calling devs obscenely incompetent among other things] - would likely have been moderated (edited or thread locked) if the opinion was different.

And, this is precisely the type of thing legal professionals are trained to spot and bring attention to.

If free speech, or some other basic human right, is to be limited in different ways for different people - based on their opinion, race, religion, sex, or age - then that disparate impact should be scrutinized at a higher level.

Notice kids: this is what you call a "straw man."

A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not presented by that opponent. One who engages in this fallacy is said to be "attacking a straw man."

Did I ever suggest that "all five ships [should be] exactly the same... with all the same stats... with all the same weapon slots"? No.

There is still a large difference in speed, acceleration, item abilities, and size (or hit box) between ships, and I have zero issue with that.

In other words, Defenders, Shooters and Fixers are still more susceptible to mortars, torpedoes, all types of cannon, flare, and rail shots. Yellow boats are still able to evade the majority of mortar fire, torpedoes (they see coming), and other slower projectiles at longer ranges.

I simply said tightening the large gap between agility and turret speed makes for a more balanced game, imo.

As speeders can traverse one side of a map to the other in 25% of the time it takes for some other ships, flanking opponents did not take strategy.

Without putting themselves in a corner to watch their front side (effectively removing themselves from the match), there was no way for a defender to keep a speeder from flanking them. So, I think it's a good thing that they have the agility to better defend these "flanks."

Notice also, I did not say that every ship should be identical here either. Post-update, the "tracking speed" is still 227% higher on the enforcer than the Defender.

    Side Note:
Politicians and media commentators (on both sides of the aisle) use this type of misdirection to inflame emotion and distract from the true arguments.

I cannot say whether he's doing it intentionally, as they do, or if this is how he naturally misinterprets any opinion he doesn't share, but the end result is the same - logic that he doesn't agree with is deemed "worthless."

Don't blame Battle Bay developers. I believe some senior officer of Rovio played Battle Bay for the first time and thought that it was hell of a boring game for newbies. Then, he went ahead to issue directives to developers.

As I've said before, it takes a high level of skill to play speeder well. You or I (or my 3 year old nephew) may not be able to play on that level, but lots of people can.

So .. I can see how this update might give average to above-average speeders issues. But, for the top 10% of speeders (or the ones I'm accustomed to seeing), I do not foresee any issue with them rising to the top of the leaderboard again next season.

They can still use their agility, speed and Tshield to stay at max range, and flare you to death. A shooters slow cannons/flare won't hit (bc you have to lead shots, and they can stop at a dime). A rail will break a shield, but a sniper won't. Even if you manage to break the TS with a rail, and hit your sniper, they'll just speed off to bandage up while you're burning from flare damage.

And I've responded to the "popularity" argument over and over again..

    1) for what ships are more "powerful," you should look at the top, not the herd

    2) there might be more shooters in the herd bc:
    • people push infamy with one setup then switch to help with guild quests with shooters
    • If you want variety (or the ability to use more than 8-10 items), shooter is your best bet
    • If you're f2p, and can only build one ship, and care about guild quests, then shooter is the way to go
    • If you're like me, and the raffle was prioritized for perks (that never showed up in the shop), you picked shooter ... But then realized that the lack of power cells will prevent you from switching over to a full-power yellow boat - after it was too late.
    • And, finally, the creator of the stat site has a clear bias towards certain things over others - so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he chose the range he did (rather than the top 30) to further his agenda - or otherwise adjusted the numbers to fit his message.

Speeders flank because they don’t have enough hp or weaponry to attack head on. Blow for blow a Speeder is clearly no match at all for a Defender.

Also it’s a team game, part of playing as a team is watching and protecting the flanks.

You talk about Defenders being able to ‘defend themselves’, like it is some god given right, paid for with the blood of patriots. But it is not, this is a game, where boats use different strategies to sink each other, and what you’re really endorsing here is Defenders being able to deprive Speeders of their main strategy.

I agree that’s absolutely wonderful for Defenders, but where does it leave Speeder? Are they now supposed to attack Defenders head on? As I said earlier, they don’t have the firepower and hp to do that. But when a Defender can swing his turret around in an instant, every angle of attack is head on.

Nice use of percentages to make that sound so much bigger and better than it really is.

In my games against Defender, I’ve observed that the time it now takes them to spin their turret 180, is for all intents and purposes instantaneous. The fact that an Enforcer’s turret is ‘twice as instantaneous’ makes little practical difference.

Regardless of whether you agree with the changes or not, calling the developers obscenely incompetent and their reasoning worthless is uncalled for.

You can argue that it's more difficult for speeders now and that is a bad thing - and I can understand your point of view.

I am willing to wait to see what type of boats are in the top 10 next season .. and if it's 80% shooters and defenders, then I might agree that some change should be made.

But, I see the logic in the developers changes. It has made the game more playable, more balanced and more fun for me. So, it would be a nice change of pace for some to recognize that the updates were chosen after a great deal of thought and trials - and that it was a strategic decision for the future benefit of the game. Afterwards, you may or may not agree with it, and I will respect that - assuming your point of view fairly states the issues and logic behind them.

The previous update did make all ships agility so high the ships that were designed to be more agile at the expense of other attributes only had a negligable advantage.

I don't think it was a strawman as much as reductio ad absurdum

Because it is a "god given right, paid for with the blood of patriots" that speeders should be able to blast behind defenders and nail them over and over again? I listed a detailed description of how speeders win without using their speed to automatically put themselves behind formerly defenseless defenders (which "defenseless-defenders" would be an oxymoron if it wasn't true).

I'm not sure how else to even respond to comments like this ...

How about a little bet? Since speeders "can't use their main strategy" anymore (and therefore are no longer viable options) .. There should be no speeders in the top 10 or top 20 next season. If it's all shooters and defenders, then I will concede to your arguments. If, however, yellows are still more common than reds or blues, then you'll admit that you're exaggeration is far too extreme.

You can criticize my original post for using too many insults and that's fine. But now you're just spending your time insulting me and I'm sick of it. You have this high-and-mighty attitude, but literally half of your most recent response towards me was pure veiled insults. Don't even pretend like it wasn't.

I may have insulted the devs but I never insulted you, so I don't get what your problem is.
I did not say that you said that. You are mischaracterizing my argument. I said that, should the logic you used be applied to the extreme, we would end up with five identical ships. This is a flaw that I am far from the first on this thread to have pointed out.

You can disagree with me on where the line on mechanical diversity should be drawn, but don't malform the points I made.
Acting like a successful flank never took any strategy is, again, a gross mischaracterization. Others on this thread have explained why, so I won't re-invent the wheel.
For the record, the popularity stats that are being referred to are, in fact, looking at "the top" (which is Nightmare League). I should know, I made the website.
Good god, you really are obsessed over that aren't you. You've expressed your distaste for that language long ago - you're just beating a dead horse right now.

    1) Where did I insult you? I simply explained how those comments were less so debating the validity of the changes, and more so direct attacks on their intelligence and ability to manage their game.

    2) Taking rational point of view to the extreme is the definition of one type of logical fallacy.

    Examples:
If they adjust one weapon to be more balanced, they will necessarily adjust all weapons to be the same. If they pass one restriction on gun ownership, they will eventually pass regulations to take away your guns. If you lower the speed limit for safety, they will eventually make all speed limits 5 mph because it's "safer."

Taking an argument to the extreme to make it seem absurd..
