AmericanMarauder testing the Epic T4, Level 40 Gatling Gun

    Hey Everyone,

    So i ran a test with the brand new, Epic T4, Level 40 Gatling Gun. I've deployed four Epic 1.5% damage boost perks. It does 15 x 78 at the moment.

    Okay so as you can see in the video, defence automatically renders this weapon useless. My GunSlinger boat has a defense rating of 62, thanks to all those Defense Boost perks we received for events. There needs to be some serious modifications and buffing to this super fun weapon before it will be viable to deploy.

    Thoughts on Fixes:

    1. Remove defense from the equation. If these used depleted uranium or armor-piercing shells, it would cut through armor like butter. Remember a Rail Gun does more damage up close in the real world. Yet because of balancing, it's the opposite here in Battle Bay. No reason this should be any different in terms of defence.

    2. Buff the damage considerably. In real world application, unless you're super close, you won't land all of your shots anyway. I would prefer less shots and higher damage. Maybe 3 rotations of the turret for 12 shots. You can see the damage in the video. Its a pea shooter at this point. My carronade is far more lethal.

    3. Speed up the burst a little more than it is.

    I think this new weapon has great potential after a few modifications. It's super fun!

    Supporting thoughts on the way some of this could be implemented:

    Perhaps just adding much greater scaling at the high end of the weapon would offset this? Giving each projectile an equivalent damage to Carronade might be too much, but maybe there's a butter zone in the middle.

    I'd like to see increasing damage with continued hits per magazine. This would reward skillful players who can keep putting rounds on target, as well as give it a big up-close buff.

    And as far as speed, I always want more BRRRRRT - right now there's very little advantage to holding back half your magazine, since there's no "tactical reload" option if you do that. Might as well make it chew through the ammo faster.

    Lmfao. A t4 epic does the same damage to a shooter as my t1 common does to a speeder o_O

    LOL... good one devs.

    Cool mechanics.. horrendous execution not making some type of adjustment for the way it interacts with defense points.

    Was this weapon even QA tested before release? Not exactly a ground breaking test AM did here and it's clear it's broken at end game. Could see how this would have gone unnoticed if testing was only done at MK1/2/3 when defense points are close to zero.. but come on.

    I should probably mention, using it in-game, I actually did 0 damage vs a defender. That's pretty bad...

    After the time and $$ AM has supported the game with, I would have went ahead and given him a Tier5 Legendary.

    It was until i realized a metal baseball bat would do more damage :)

    Gatling gun damage is laughable at the moment but I can see it doing very well in future with major upgrades in the weapon.

    Defense should scale on incoming damage. If it were somehow percentage based, it would be more effective against large cannon fire, mines, torpedoes, etc... and less effective against carronade, gatling gun, missiles, standard cannon...

    Nah, Defense should be out the picture all together for this weapon. Armor-piercing rounds would slice right through it.

    Im thinking we will see event perks for this weapon that would buff it' damage against defence. Such as gatling ignores 50% of defence. Or better yet since technically 15 shots from the gatling is 1 attack, once your first shots in the salvo eat up the defence the rest are straight damage. Example: ship has 60 defense, each shot does 15 damage, after landing 4 shots the remaining 11 do 15 damage direct to hp. Defence resets after gatling gcd. Something to this effect would work, obvously numbers are not exact.

    No its unusable right now. I get no damage against defenders and i have a maxed T4 Epic.
