They should rename the Events in 'Seal Clubbers Paradise'

    I have been saying on several threads that Devs are actively looking at event matchmaking now. They want players to publish shots of battle results, and then write a paragraph about why they thought it unfair.

    This is their chosen method of reviewing the fairness. So Devs do care, they do listen, and they want people to submit examples as in the manner I’ve described. However people are being put off submitting their evidence by other people saying that Devs don’t listen.

    Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

    Well said! It is true a lot of people only complain amongst themselves every week and then tell each other about the big bad Devs that they just evil(some really do say such things), which is nonsense of course. If they would not care, they would not have made a website we can discuss these matters. (Okay I can be guilty of complaining too ;))

    That said a little more interaction from the Devs side would be much appreciated. Of course I get they cannot tell everything and not all the ideas we give them can be implemented.

    Where was this said and how to post it? I've posted more excruciating detail than most people here, and some of the blatant issues were addressed, but in a very crude way. 1-2 weeks ago all matchmaking threads were consolidated into one under Bugs but that one has fallen off the radar.

    There are a couple of other threads on Event matchmaking but I thought this comment was the most pertinent. Here are 3 examples I encountered in the last 5x5 Cap/Kill event.

    I thought our team did pretty average with 7 kills as that has been quite normal if the match-ups are even. But to lose 18-7 and if you look at the top contributor, he did 2x more damage than the next which of course contributed to the overall kills. There is something definitely wrong with Gear Score ranking if 3 Legendary weapons can be equipped and the resulting Gear Score is only a little higher than my Enfo with a Epic L23 Carronade and Rare L40 ExCannon (~ 4700 before I levelled the ExCannon to L45 yesterday).

    Another uneven matchup and compounded by fleeting. 4 Legendaries on the Unfriends side, none on ours. The top contributor did 4x more damage than the next (his fleetmate). Not sure why the Fixer's legendary ExCannon is not showing on the screencap of the profile though. Top contributors Gear Score was actually lower than mine but he has 3 Legendaries equipped and mid/high-level Epics.

    The match was over even before it started. The fleeted defenders got to the capture point and just sat there. Anyone who got close were one/two-shotted by their Legendaries.

    The common theme across the 3 examples above (and there are others as I came across the same names again and again) was that the players are around 4K infamy range and were exploiting the Gear Scores by equipping L1 Legendaries and/or removing perks.

    Hopefully, this can be looked into before the next Event starts. Thanks for reading my 4c worth.

    Is gear score adjustments going to fix it?

    No. Otherwise the people with this issue would have come up with a better solution - something more specific than just saying the system is garbage.

    What is the real issue?

    People have zero incentive to level up their ships because they can play against weaker competition.

    Would gear score adjustments put them on more of an even playing field?

    Maybe. But their captain level advantages make the same weapons stronger and they're more experienced and generally a little better than actual mk2 players.

    Is making adjustments for captain level going to be stupid complicated and still exploitable?

    Obviously.

    So what's the easiest solution?

    Setting a minimum boat tier at one below whatever the max is available to you in order to enter events.

    Will people still be able to "experiment"?

    Yes. Gear score will still match you with fellow "experimentors." Side note - Most experimentors will never level up their underleveled boats unless they're forced to.

    Why do people fight this common sense solution?

    Because they enjoy beating up on players 30 levels below theirs.

    No... it's more that boat upgrades are expensive and pointless if you don't use the boat, so many players are sitting with low level boats that the Events now allow experimentation with. IMO BB should level all boats at once. Problem solved.

    The other issue is that Gear Score is not always reflective of an item's power.... so until that is fixed, high level players will continue to use under-scored Gear like a Legendary L1... it avoids flagging the system for high level gear, and the GS number underestimates the power of the item once the high level training is applied to it.

    That would solve this issue. I don't think it's going to happen .. but who knows.

    A L1 legendary has a slightly smaller gear score than a max rare and does a bit more damage (with all my captain bonuses). It's maybe a difference of 40 gear score and 15 damage .. so, yeah, it could use a small adjustment.

    Going perk-less on a max rare or L1 legendary is going to give you more punch for the gear score, so they could remove that loophole by automatically adding 140 for each perk slot to the GS of the item .. sure.

    But, is that going to fix things?

    My ships are probably 20-30% faster, more agile, and have turrets turning that much faster than L10 captains. So, even if you micromanage each item's gear score, I'm still going to have an advantage using a mk2 over any natural mk2 user (not to mention the extra experience and skill over newer players).


    Do I blame people for doing it - for taking advantage of the system to get more coins and easier matches? Absolutely not.

    But ... it should probably be fixed at some point if we want to stop discouraging newer players.

    This is why my suggestion is to base Gear Score on the item's final output. Your Legendary Turbo may have a GS of 740, but in reality that may improve one boat by .2 and another by .4, so as you point out, applying numbers to an object gives no relative measure of effectiveness, it's the final speed that matters. Final results take into account everything... item rarity, perks, training, and boat MK level... literally everything that matters.

    I hear the Devs are trying to do this by using GS in a power rating, but it's not working in a large percentage of the cases. I suspect it's not working because they aren't taking into account everything that goes into the final output.. DPS, Speed, etc. Also, they originally gave us Gear Score so that we could use that as a relative power rating to design a boat to enter an event, but since EventMatchmaker(tm) doesn't use only Gear Score... it uses a mystical Power Rating which now renders Gear Score nearly useless as a guide to players... so we are back to a mysterious matchmaking system. Fix Gear Score or give us the Power Rating in place of Gear Score. There is no third option for events.

    they reworked gear score of perks, hope it will make dropping perks less beneficial
    new perks gs system (at least what I found, don't have access to all perks):
    % (speed boost, damage, range, cooldown etc.) perks add exactly same % to gs and stat, perks that add numbers (hp perks, duration perks etc.) add gs as number, but only low, epic hp perk for shield adds only 38 gs
    but
    crit chance (sniper, cannon, grenade) perks add number, damage to burning adds number, too

    Sounds like only GS of perks were adjusted, but that was definitely the biggest issue from the outset. We'll have to see how much it helps in the next event.

    Where should we post it? I really want to see what they will say of my lv6+lv7 against lv24+lv27 match with lv1-3wps against lv10-18 WPS.
