I see mk6s all over the place, from 1 Infamy up to the top. So, you get matched up with mk6 very quickly nowadays in Battle Bay. It has little to do with someone being 'too good'.

I have a mk4 Shooter and Enforcer and am at 1200 Infamy. I hate it when I see mk6s in my team, because those are not the best players and play worse than the mk2s, mk3s and mk4s who play in the same battle once too often.

We could always try matching with MK a bit. Like mainly infamy but focusing a bit on MK too.

    EXAMPLE OF NEW MATCHMAKING:

    F: MK4x4, MK5x1
    UF: MK5x2, MK4x2, MK3x1

Along with different things. You would have more people in/around your MK

Also I'm surprised this matchmaking thread has not been locked

It's not the match making that is the problem. 90% of the players in this game are dumb. As a nightmare fixer, i watch my team go in all different directions almost every game. I've done the first smart thing in ages and uninstalled.

You've done everything tho. You're a Nightmare! What else is left to achieve(other than top 50, 10 or #1)?

In the most recent event, I noticed the matchmaking algorithm change at least three times .. So they are experimenting with different variations.

This issue is that there is no perfect solution.

Currently, my best educated guess is that infamy is used as a filtering tool to match players within a certain range, then it tries to put the same boat tier levels on each side, then uses a ranking formula to sort the rest of the teammates.

This system appears more fair.. same number of higher tiered boats, same infamy range .. It may not always feel perfectly fair, but if you look at everyone's win rate - it's about as "fair" as possible.

Think about if they matched strictly on gear score and ship tier, and forgot infamy (which I believe was tried during the latest event) .. people throw fits because they're constantly being matched by better players or players better able to manipulate their gear score.

What if they added weapon caps to ship tiers? You would have no incentive to move up, get better weapons/items.

The best advice I can give you is to get used to it. You're not going to be the biggest, baddest ship on the bay until you are. You're going to have to learn to hide and chip away at stronger boats, and learn to be a better teammate.

Once you get to mk6-7, the big boys won't have nearly the advantage. You won't have to worry about being the smallest boat out there.

I see maxed players (that paid to max everything in a month) playing like they're invincible. They never learned to be scared of a bigger boat, how to be strategic, or how to be a part of a team.

They usually don't last long when they run into matches where everyone has the same weapons and same health they do.

So, the lessons you're learning now are valuable.

What I noticed with the matchmaking on Gear Sccore, that I beat Nightmare players several times. So, Infamy says not much. I have been beat in battles with my mk5 Speeder by mk2s and mk3s, but won battles with my mk2 account from mk6 players.

I think a different type of score is needed badly. As I have stated before I had two accounts, both same setup and same ship type. With one I reached a 1000 Infamy with the mk2 and with the other one I was stuck at 400 or thereabout and went down even below a 100 again. My strategy was the same, but with one of the accounts I just had the luck of getting much better teams all the time than with the other account.

So, it comes down to luck which teams you get. I think the -1, 0, 1, 23, -23, -24 and 24 point system is too narrow. You should also get points for the way you play. I am currently thinking of how that should be. I think 50% of the score should from the team result, so if you win or lose and 50% should be a personal score, this combined should be fairer and more logical than the current system. So, people who play well stand out and will not be held accountable that much for people who suïcide or just play badly.

Some said, but you play as a team, so you should all get the same score like in sports. But in sports, lets say football people always play with the same team and not every match a different team. So, that is very different. And an amateur will not be in the same team as a professional player either.

I highly doubt that any of this will make sense to you, but I'll give it a whirl.

    1) The range you got with one mk2 six months to a year ago will be higher than it is now because there are more players and many of those players have better items than players at that range had before. Also, you may have RNG'd better weapons with one account or the other.

    2) If you're beating nightmare league mk6s with your mk2, one-vs-one, then props to you because no one else can do that. If you mean that your team did that, then sure .. they were probably experimenting with a new matchmaking algorithm in an event - and it turned out to be an even match.

    3) There is a big difference between a 4000 infamy mk6 and a 2000 infamy mk6 - and it's not luck. It's item levels and player skill. Better players will win more matches over time.

In 10 matches, luck may make a big difference. In 100, it may make some difference. In 1000 to 10000, luck has very little to do with it.

    It makes sense.

    1. I had the same boat, same setup with a long range mortar, uncommon standard mortar and sniper. All were uncommon T2 level maxed, without perks.

    2. I meant I did more damage than some Nightmare players in DM, whilst they had stronger weapons. Legendary and I played with Uncommon T2 maxed out and a rare standard cannon T2 at 215 damage. They might have used a different boat, but they had 10.000 battles played, which i have not by a long shot or did they others in my team. They had mk6 ships, but used a mk2 with 2 uncommon level 1 nitro to lower the Gear Score and legendary weapons.

    3. true, that is not luck. But I do wonder if we all had the same boats, same setup, who would win in the end. I think the tables might turn for a lot of people. Not all, but the score board will change.

    4. I had not played 1000+ battles with both account back then. It was about 200-300. Eventually it would have averaged out, you are right. I was only pointing out that you have no say in which people will be on your team. And that it no matter what has a big impact on your score, because you have no say in who is on your team and who is on the Unfriends team.

That said, I asked for guild tournaments. I think that would be far more interesting than Deathmatch. we can discus if all player will have the same level ships or not, but guild tournament would have my vote over Deathmatch. Deathmatch is everyone for him- or herself. Whereas this game is designed to work together. In Deathmatch it is often just one big chaos.

    Regards,
    Flint

This is what I meant with mk6 players at a way too low Infamy:

T1/T2 epic weapons will not even get your foot into the nightmare league doorstep. Their firepower is easily rilvaled by a half developed rare weapon, which is easier to come by in just a couple of months, even F2P. What you're seeing is someone who got some lucky RNG or just has played for a while (but not too often to get good and advance).

The person with the mk6 and 0 Infamy had 5885 battles under his belt, so not really a newbie.

Their gear is really poor for someone with 5k matches. I wonder whether they’ve previously scrapped all their gear and have now started again.

Using rudder plus double turbo (but no shield) is an odd combination.

Anyway @Flint looks like you’ve built a long distance fighting ship so you’ll be able to stay in the fights with higher players but be able to stay out of their shooting range. Seems like it is working well for you given the result of the match.

Looking at his damage, though, he's definitely a noobie, or he got insta-bursted in a bad position. High mk ship and a lot of battles doesn't always mean "skilled player". It's not easy getting to 0 infamy you know lol.
