Is it still worth running Exploding Cannon on a Speeder?

Ever since EC was nerfed, my infamy basically stalled. Even though I’ve upgraded to mk6, and t5 Epic EC, I still can’t get back to where I was in my mk5.

I recently tried switching to Flare and Burn Perks, to try to get more out of it, but it’s the same story. Too hard to hit with at long range, too dangerous to get close with, and too many opportunities missed while waiting for the cooldown.

Best case scenario, I can be one 5th of the team, but I just never get good games anymore. I used to have a few 3 star games every day, but now it’s like the planets need to align. I’m just not able to be effective.

Every game I’m dependent on being carried, while shooters at my level are getting 15-20k damage.

I hate to admit it, because I spent so long building it up, but I feel like the problem is EC. It’s just too slow when you’ve only got two weapons. I feel like Speeder in general is just becoming ‘not worth it’, unless you’ve got very specific high tier items (Tesla Shield).

It’s really making me lose interest in the game, as the possibility of getting other Epic items to t5 (in order to replace it) is months away, and I’m getting really fed up of just being cannon fodder for Shooters and Enforcers.

Ik the speeder nerf and its items are really taking a toll. More and more speeders are turning to enforcer. We shall be resilient.

Plenty of top speeders still run EC. It is still the most reliable burst damage weapon for Speeders.

I prefer Blast cannon after the nerf though. And I run big torp too so I can't fit Explosive cannon anyway.

I agree with most of points stated above...

1st dis adv. Of blast/E.C. Over Sniper is they are dependent too much on fire Damage.Use them without it,there is a straight cut out of almost 1K damage. My lvl 7 leggy E.C does 1100 damage at max and 1600 with added fire.

So basically if you wish to run these canons, equipping fire damage weapon becomes a must.It destroys many potential combos, especially on a speeder

2nd prob with E.C.---After having 4 unregistered shots in TDM in a single match i was ridiculed by how useless using an explosive canon can feel.

3rd--Used blast as well ec,Blast is just far more accurate at 20+ range.E.C. can be easily avoided if a good enforcer figures out the approaching projectile.Slow projectile

4th--Sacrifice 10% dmg for 10% faster projectile? What's even the logic there.(I ssly need an explanation for this from a dev)

Since every aspect of E.C. is similar to blast canon( leaving aside Bad accuracy, more cooldown) with a 300-400 damage bump it is clear that the canon is 2 slotted for its splash! A fkin spalsh damage of "2".You have to be really lucky for 2 boats to be closer enough to hit the splash of that damned weapon.

Bad Cool-down of E.C. Is an over reaction which doesn't matter much.

Explosive buff-Projectile speed similar to blast And Remove the talent clash with projectile speed in bhurt in addition to it

Also i would like to add my long thought suggestion that dependency of blast as well as explosive on fire destroys many potential combos.Or even if they are used they aren't effective as with flare/FB.Increasing base Damage, Decreasing the bonus fire Damage making sure that The total outcome damage is same would be a step in right direction

The main disadvantage of fire+Canons is you have to wait for enemy to light on fire till you can fire your canon with full effectiveness. So basically you cannot hit and run with a speeder without cycle of two weapons and taking a chunk of damage

Thing about flare+ explosive combo is that if your flare is weak, you will struggle. Yes EC does huge chunk of damage with fire but it's the flare that finishes opponents while you run for cover. If your flare is weak, you'll be forced to come back for round 2 and increasing your risks of getting killed. Whereas with a strong flare, you can run away knowing your opponent is dead.
Even in nightmare, some speeders just flare the first guy and run off to finish the second one with EC while the first one burns for 20 or so seconds with 80-90 damage per tick.

I thought it might be worth sharing a game. This is just my most recent game, and I felt like I played ‘reasonably’ well.

    https://replay.battlebay.net/QTWRJYFW#NFGDXGMH

I missed a couple of ranged shots at the start (surprisingly speedy Defender). But after that I think I land most of my shots.

But with the attack on the Defender you can see that for most of the time, I’m just floating along next to him, unable to shoot.

Then I come back and try to save my teammate with the bubble (though he wasn’t very cooperative). And I get a few more shots, but that’s it: game over. And I’m the bottom of the list again.

I can understand that a Shooter ‘should’ get more damage. But he took exactly the same path as me, fired at the same targets, and did double what I was able to do (more damage than I ever do really).

Even with my double blast build, running around with your reds cooled down is a normal thing. I wouldn't judge this setup on that.

What I WILL judge you for, however, is thar BLASPHEMOUS shot leading at the start on the defender. That was an easy 2.4k damage(at least)

Also, you're using excannon wrongly. Wow this feels odd lol. Excannons are for group damage people. Since you're only using it on single targets, you might as well be a blast flare speeder!

This above train of thought is what I used when choosing a blast cannon over an excannon. I scrapped my t4 rare, if you might recall it. I simply found it too tough to hit two targets with splash... So why even bother with a twoslot wep with more CD than my main blast?

TBH, I’m still baffled as to why group damage was nerfed for EC. I must have played about 5k games with, and in all that time, I’ve only experienced a double kill twice; that’s how uncommon it is.

Hitting groups seems to be more of a lucky opportunity, than something you can do by design.

If Rovio expects me to charge into ‘groups’ to get damage, then they’re going to need to give me a lot more Speed and HP (because groups shoot back), and it’s going to need to be worth more than the measly ~700 damage you get on Splash.

Also, it’s way way worse than double Blast. 2x Blast was my build originally, and it’s fine. EC is painfully slow in comparison.

Seeing your gear: Man, the problem is that your flare is ridiculously weak when you consider your other weapon :eek::eek:
Flare gun is not a yellow item, it has to deliver almost the same damage of your main weapon, even more without the bonus damage :D

Have you tried using torps yet? I find them easier hit sometimes (especially the swift torp) and you can hit from any range. If you have the torp sets on fire perk thing then it could go well with your ex cannon as well.

I used to play speeder too, but now I find it unplayable and have moved on to other ships. You could always try out enfo or shooter (if you have enough weapons).

Since you use all damage perks :D 20% is not a reliable chance

Well, the only other weapon I’ve got that comes close is a t4 Epic Blast. That was what I was running before (EC+Blast, with crit perks). But it hasn’t really worked since EC was nerfed.

I have enough duplicates to get Big Torp and Sniper to Epic t5, and I could get Grenade to t3. But I haven’t had much practice with any of those, and it’s still gonna take a lot of parts and sugar to build them up.

I would level up the grenade first, as it can be used on enfo as well and with the right perks can have a large chance of setting unfriend on fire.

Looks like you have a lot of cool options to try :D I'd start building that sniper, I've seen Orpheus running sniper + explosive some times, if you don't like it, you could farm your big torp and become a frost torp + sniper speeder.

I think getting a OB+2N would be a nice setup. Once you learn to use the nitros at the right time, you will be a valuable asset to your team.

I think this is the only perk you should use on BC or EC when you're not using something to set your enemies on fire. Screenshot_20180606-140015.png

I agree with all that... the only Epic canon RNGeezus has given me that exceeds rare is an EC, and I'm not finding it has any value over BC. The only real value is area damage, but with enemies always spread, you are left with issuing slightly less damage than a BC in almost every shot, and then waiting for extra long cool down to add insult to injury. I've been running it for a week now and have yet to see a single instance of AoE damage. I'm sure it will come, but so far I'm not finding the AoE makes up for lower damage plus high cool down. AoE odds are likely increased on a Speeder, but not so much on a Shooter.

Also if it makes you feel any better, it took me 2 months to exceed my MK5 infamy in an MK6, so I know your pain. I don't agree that matches should instantaneously get harder when upgrading to a stronger boat because it is counter-intuituve, and it taints the intent of the infamy number.
