I see burst damage referenced on here frequently. What is it? How does it fit into your loadout selection etc?

That means tons of damage in a short period of time. Burst weapons for example railgun, explosive cannon, big berta... Also there is sustained weapons for example standart cannon, carronade, standart, long and ballpark mortars...

Burst damage is done by a weapon that takes out an entire chunk of your health bar. As such these weapons are HEAVY and usually use combos to get the damage required. I'm talking blast, excannon, big and swift torp, RG, carronade(yup, carronade is burst. At some levels(not even maxed epic) it takes out 1000+ HP in a single shot)

Burst is quite important for something like a Speeder, where you don’t have a lot of weapons, and you’re not really durable enough to sit and trade blows with people. So you want to do as much damage as possible in your first 1-2 shots, and then get out of there, before anyone has time to retaliate. That’s why Speeders will usually opt for things like EC and Big Torp.

I run EC and Blast, both with crit perks to try to maximise my burst damage. The crits probably aren’t as a reliable as something like a burn combo, but there is no set-up time, and when they do come, that one passing hit can be devistating.
