This game is a collapsing vacuum chamber

That would be a very bad system. The current system aims to make matches in such a way that the win probability (statistically speaking) is 50% per side. That's what's considered "fair", because the odds are equal. Your proposed system would destroy that. If matchmaking is based on mk and items (gear score, basically), skilled players will win a lot, while not-so-skilled players will lose a lot. Which means that last category of players will not enjoy the game anymore, and many would quit. On top of that, there would be no point in upgrading items anymore, because every time you would upgrade something, the matchmaking would adjust for it, so that you gained nothing.

The one problem here is that BB is not advertised as a dog-eat-dog competitive game! It's a "casual game". At least it was back when I last saw the screen in the Play Store.

Which means the noobs are actually the majority. Why? Well, the forum has pros in it, no denying that. BUT how many even know of its existence? Ive met people in chillzone who were saying that it's sad that the game doesn't have a forum.

Noobs. Are. The. Majority. I'm willing to bet that nearly all the forum members are among the top 25% players in terms of gear score vs infamy. The reason we have so many matchmaking complaints is for that exact reason.

Wow, this makes my head hurt. How can we make the matchmaking more fair BUT SIMULTANEOUSLY let the noobs with advanced ships and guns have fun?

I understand that the "vacuum chamber" does not fully describe the situation. But there does exist the effect.

As you have said, infamy is created from the bottom, and destroyed at the top.

But the matter is that the created infamy is not directly transfered to the top. And I understand this is where my analogy confuse you.

The created infamy is transfered to low end players. The destroyed infamy is taken away from the high end players.

Unlike the ideal situation, where the created infamy is allowed to flow freely to the top. And this is where the air analogy fails.

What happens in the real situation? Infamy is taken away like a chain. All players except the true nightmare lose their infamy consecutively to higher end players, only to have them destroyed in nightmare league.

Yes, except everyone in the middle of the chain gains and loses infamy in equal amounts. Only the ones at the very bottom generate new infamy, and only those at the very top get it destroyed. There is no effect where the entire chain loses infamy over time.

Infamy is ALSO created by the people who started at, say, 4.2k at a high and got resetted at season reset when they had 3.4 k or so infamy, generating 400 infamy on the process. And believe me, tons of players fall out of NML and rubberband back due to season reset.

Plus, NML is SMALL. BB has a huge playerbase, evident by the fact that we get 5 second match times at low-mid leagues. The smallish amount of infamy that is "generated" every time an imbalanced match is played, plus the NML rubberbanding, plus the new players' botfighting, generates a rather large pool of infamy, which is destroyed at season reset.

Plus I'm sure the devs are keeping track of infamy.

No, time taken to FIND a match. Have you noticed how REGULAR it is? Without bots in the game, we have 5-6 seconds of time needed to find matches! Isn't it a clear sign of the game not dying?

I don't agree that there doesn't exist a net effect. Your assumption is that the rate of infamy generation is greater than the rate of infamy destruction, but very soon you will realise that this assumption contradicts with the actual situation.

When the rate of infamy creation is very large, infamy get pushed to the top. And the excess infamy are removed. Sounds very ideal.

This means that the rate of infamy destruction will change against the rate of infamy creation, establishing an infamy equilibrium.

If the equilibrium exist, the general state of the ladder should remain more or less the same. There should not be any disruption that cause pain to us, the players.

But this is not happening. It has been a year since global launch. There is no way the infamy equilibrium does not exist by now.

The only explanation is that infamy is destroyed more than created.

You battle REAL players after 200 infamy, dude! There's no AI playing with/against you after that!

And I am not saying that the game is dying. I just wish to point out the problem. Whether this gets fixed is not to my desire.

Well, the explanation is simple then. The reason is that, when infamy is reset, the players at the top, at the very top, like, 5500-6000+ infamy, get resetted to 4000. This makes the game severely unbalanced for the first few days, leading to a "ripple" that goes all the way downwards.

and nml reset is synced with season end times? is that why battles right after season ends are so hard?

The effect is not that simple. Nightmare guys have no way to interupt with the gameplay of people with infamy 2000 or below. The macroscale effect last longer than just a few days, if not permanent and stacking.

That’s certainly the truth. I always hoped that as I rose up the ranks my teammates would get better, play more strategically, communicate, genuinely stick ‘together’, and stop breaking my stuns. But it’s actually the complete opposite...

The mk6s that I’ve met in the 2-2.8k infamy range, are some of the worst players I’ve encountered playing this game.

I’m not sure why that is. Maybe it’s because that’s where p2w scrubs naturally plateau.

I’m still hoping that things might improve as I edge towards NML. But I’m worried it will just be more of the same, only the scrubs will all have t5 legendaries, and then there will be nowhere left for me to go.

It would be nice if there was just ‘somewhere’ in the game, that only good players can get to, where you’re finally able to experience a higher standard of play.

I seldom come to the forum. You can see that obviously. I just want to say that the problem of the current infamy system lies in the macroscale.

A macroscale problem. This is not something easily observed from just 1 perspective. I used to play in the 3500s, until I sense that the old "stupid" players that I hate are diffusing into the air of Ace I.

This is not trivial. Nothing was like this around the global launch.

And this is not a problem that can be solved by patching matchmaking. Personalising infamy for each ship and MK? Doesn't help much. It lies deeper.
