Exclamation mark having doible damage almost

Can someone please explain to me i some times when hitting someone above his ship damage count its like 1.5 more than usual hit damage point with a red exclamation mark above him ...how can i achieve this intensionaly...searched everywhere for an answer .

It's a critical hit. You can increase critical hit chance and damage using perks and training.

 

It's a critical hit (crit), which is random to get when shooting, but you can bring the chance up with training and perks

 

are canons the only weapons that can crit?

 

I think torps can crit, but idk about anything else.

 

Grenade crit is the chance to set em on fire for 5 seconds and mortars can have a sort of crit with direct hits. I don't believe that there's any torp crit.
