    Hi guys,

So since we tot this gear score, I feel like it's just something to show off with instead of it having a real use.

At the moment I am lvl 13 with a mk2 shooter playing around 1000 infamy. Well, can't really call it playing as most ships are mk4 and mk5 and I am just shark bait. Or I have to wait out the first 1,5 minutes to get some damage done from a distance.

So i thought, what are these mk5 boat players doing in this infamy range? Or am I really that high in infamy myself? How do I drop my inf? Losing on purpose is lame and also quite hard lol

Isn't it an idea to use gear score in combination with infamy for matchmaking? That way people can also switch boats later on. Lets say one has a mk5 shooter on 2500 inf with all rare and epic t3+ weapons but wants to try fixer. He probably had to start with the basics but was still dropped in 2500 inf with his mk 4 or 5 fixer with some uncommon / rare t1 or t2 items at best.

    What do you guys think?

    Regards, Jos.

There’s been threads on this already, basically the reason why this would not work: upgrading gear would not help you rise in infamy. This is because having t5 epic gear, or really above average gear for your level = matching you with a bunch of lower geared players thus making upgrading more of a burden than a help. They already are balancing the mk levels on teams as of 2.6, which was a disaster imo (mk5 ships being stuck at low infamy bc they’re constantly matched with low mk teammates).

Either you are mistaken or I dont get what youre saying. What I meant was to make a new factor to base matchmaking on which involves gear score. I get paired with mk5 ships all the time which gives me no opportunity to play porperly.

I get unintentionally carried most of the time now. And get paired with higher tier boats and weapons because my inf rises. However I can not compete with them. Hence the influence of gear score.

My gear score is considerably lower than those I get matched with. So the system should see that pairing me with them is not a valid matchmaking.

Hope you get what I mean.

Nope, I understood you. Let me try and explain:
You’re getting carried because the matchmaking currently balances ship mk levels. What this means is that even though you’re using for example a mk3, your team will always (or usually) be balanced with the others. Let me try and simplify to a 2v2 scenario:
    You | Teammate /VS./ enemy1 | enemy2
    mk3 | mk5 (total =8) VS. mk4 | mk4 (total =8)
    mk4 | mk4 (total =8) VS. mk4 | mk4 (total =8)
    mk5 | mk3 (total =8) VS. mk4 | mk4 (total =8)
As you can see, going from mk3 -> mk4 means your teammate will always be one ship level worse. So then progressing via mk level already has little to no effect on your infamy, leaving it all up to skill + gear. But if we added gear score balancing into the equation as well, then infamy would be left completely up to skill; leveling up gear would be meaningless in terms of increasing infamy.

Trust me, you don’t want this. It just means higher mk & gear opponents at the SAME infamy as newer players such as yourself.

Thanks. Seems there is some work cut out to find another way of getting the matchmaking better.

So, any tips for me? How do I get to play enemies with boats less than 2k health. As you can imagine, being a guppy in a pool of sharks is not enjoyable for long. Though keep playing and try to get higher tier boat and weapons seems the only option for now. This sucks :(

Thanks for the help so far though, really appreciate it.

I think gear score matchmaking would help with neutralizing infamy tankers. It's worse than ever at around 500-600 infamy. I constantly see mk 5 shooters and defenders that completely destroy my team.

It’s really rough at the start :/ just play enough to train your captains and level up, it’ll get better soon. Also if they ever remove “balancing mk levels in matchmaking” which I hope they do, there’ll be less mk5 matched with new players and that should make things better. Good luck man :) cya on the bay!

Would me great of they restrict the mk lvl by just 1. So a team can only consist of mk1 and 2 / mk2 and 3 / mk3 and 4 etc.

I will try to get through this without quiting as I do love the game. See ya in the bay!
