    I said it once. In a game where getting into position is one of the main challenges to winning, a ship capable of doing it in seconds will always be OP, provided the pilot is good.

    This. Judging from my experience so far, speeders are WAY more responsive to player skill -- both good and bad -- than shooters and presumably all the other slow boats. In my speeder I can generate misses via skill. I can also generate wins via better strategy as opposed to better tactics since I have the speed to implement strategic plans. So at both the tactical and strategic levels a fast, highly maneuverable boat is going to capitalize on player skill.

    To this thread in general, no game designer in their right mind balances a game based on the performance of the top 100. Those people aren't playing the same game as the rest of us in a wide variety of ways. Their skill is different and the gear they use is different... different enough to pretty much totally change the battle dynamics. Put differently, if I had dual T5 epic tesla shields I'd go enforcer in a heartbeat. I don't so tesla shield is a "useless" item to me right now and the enforcer remains secondary to the speeder. In order to be useful for a game balance discussion we'd really need to see this same data set but in several lower infamy ranges too. Then we'd have to make educated guesses as to why the relative positions swap around from one range to another.

    4month old necroed thread my friend!

    The top players are the ones that have played for long enough to have actual choice in what boat (+items) they use. Whilst its not representative of low level play, it is the place to look if you want to see how/if they meta adapts over time.
    This game has had too many lowlevel changes that affect endgame already (and that way of thinking leaves Mortars as completely absent from gameplay when you near endgame), Id much rather see balance changes that correct permanent situations (endgame) and then accept temporary (leveling up) imbalances.
    It doesnt matter all that much which mk3 ship is best, the infamy matchmaking does a fine job of providing meaningful matchups that account for such an imbalance (as the worst boat will have lower infamy and be matched accordingly). Once you get to endgame these imbalances suck, and leads to metas like the one we had at the time of this snapshot (if you wanted to fight for #1 there was, being generous to shooter, 2 viable boats to play).

    TLDR:
    Good: Permanent balance at the cost of temporary imbalance.
    Bad: Permanent imbalance at the cost of temporary balance.

    I refuse to admit that the game designers of Battle Bay are so awful that they cannot balance player classes across the levels. There's no particular reason that low levels must suffer for high levels and if you ever want to see more high levels then there's a lot of good reasons to avoid that. Oh, by the way, no. The infamy system does not do a "fine job of providing meaningful matchups" at low levels. In fact it's a crisis in and of itself. Honestly, the game started to look sane AFTER I crossed 1500 infamy. I'm pretty sure it actually got easier. Certainly my matchups became an awful lot more meaningful when I got into a fairly well geared M4 at 1500 infamy. What I saw at 1200 and below was a nightmare.

    One can generate misses with shooter too. And that requires more skill. (Not only speed, Shooter height is more than speeder too)
