Blast vs Explosive Cannon Comparison

    Well being F2P and ace1 league defender, I quit game after nerf of EC after 12k matches. Now, explosive canon does not stand against blast canon. You can compare swift torpedo damage(1 slot weapon) and big torpedo damaged (2 slot weapon) against comparison of blast canon and explosive canon. Explosive canon doesn't stand against blast anywhere now. We F2P invest lot of time in upgrading weapon but they got badly nerfed. It is difficult for F2P to suddenly switch to another weapon and upgrade it.

    I always need to deal out massive damage, so I go with ec. While blast cannon is also good,ex cannon does much more damage

    Personally, I like the blast cannon as it has a shorter cooldown and its faster projectile speed and higher range allow for some insane skill shots with a little more ease. However, I've been in battles where almost everyone on the enemy team had at least one Ex Cannon and I can tell you that they are absolutely devastating compared to the Blast Cannon. Definitely not underpowered even post-nerf and I think the balance between the two is great. The decision really depends on your playstyle and role in the team.

    I don't deny that the CD nerf is a tough one, but Imho I think people who quit the game after a Nerf like this is just completely over thinking it and are whining to a incredible degree.

    What they did with frost torp, now that I can sympathize with if you want to quit.

    People really quitting because of this ex cannon nerf?

    Let's take flare double ex as an example:
    Old vs new:(in seconds)
    Flare shot: 2.5 vs 2.5
    Ex cannon shot: 5 vs 5
    Ex cannon shot: 7.5 vs 7.5
    Flare shot again: 11.1 vs 11.1
    Ex cannon shot: 13.6 vs 14.4
    Ex cannon shot: 16.1 vs 16.9
    Flare shot again: 22.2 vs 22.2
    Ex cannon shot: 25.8 vs 28.8
    Ex cannon shot: 28.3 vs 31.3

    As you can see here, it is not until the 7-8 shots of the ex cannon that this nerf starts to really screw defenders over, people need to support and play as a team to not let the defenders be close to 30 seconds in and be in a 1 vs 5. Also remember, there is global cooldown, because of that what is 11.1 secs ends up being 2.5s longer when you want to chain it.

    I'll say this. I had a t4 rare excannon before the nerf. I was also near lv27(like, 2 levels away). At the time, excannon was superior to blast cannon for me as a speeder.

    When it did get nerfed, it made me question: What is my role? I was nevver really an assassin, and as such, was a duellist kind of player. I only got it when excannon got nerfed! I shouldn't be a speeder at all! I'm a duellist, so I only need the speed to get to my enemies and then, it's just blow them away into the next dimension!

    So, if you play enfo/defender, blast is really the way to go, it chains awesomely with flare, napalm, firebomb, all the good stuff.

    If you play speeder, excannon(burst damage). Fixer, excannon(scaaaary to be hit by one if youre an assassin). Shooter, excannon(because it doesn't conflict with snipe)

    Everyone, take this from an Ex Cannon user. The nerf was not nearly as bad as you people are making it out to be. I still get rekt by them as often as before.

    100 % i'm choosing Exp cannon , since i"m shooter player , mk6 , i have no problem with 2 slot of exp cannon . And the main reason are i'm a sniper user , since blast and sniper are on the same tree ( bhurt ) i choose all on sniper side . i don't mind even exp got nerf lately , it's still usefull especially with area dmg , just like torpedoes but it's a cannon .

    Things are simple, depends on what you have, what ship you play, and what you focus on.
    For f2p it would be seemingly a matter of which they get more dupes of.
    Second on what ship you play :
    blast is good as a one slotter as long as there is a need to utilize odd weapon slots, such as the enforcer which has 3 red, so 3 blasts or dual blasts+flare would do better than flare+explo.
    As for speeder, it has 3 red but 2 slots, so rather than flare+blast, flare+explo is better, or blast+explo too.
    Same goes for fixer.
    For shooter and defender, whichever combination(s) of blast and explo you deem suitable can be used.
    Other weapons are paired along on shooter and defender, so for die-hard optimum use makers of sniper, they would explo, some would use for splash (depends how much you can make of splash, not just crowds, if you know to hit shipwrecks, walls good, the explo is a plus point, since blast would be a misser here) while some would prefer blast due to slightly higher projectile speed or other preferable characters.
    Also comparing using only blast, explo and flare guns, a flare+blast+3 explo setup or dual blast + triple explo setup is better then 5 blasts, or 1 flare 4 blasts, or 4 explos on shooter. (Same for defender. Just minus an explo or minus 2 blasts/1 flare, 1 blast)
    Since they are both better combined on shooter/def it is viable to mix both to make good use of both weapons.

    Many defenders still run explosive cannons because we haven't had time to level up a new weapon to be on a competitive level. We are sitting 4-600 infamy below our normal position on a gimp weapon, trying to salvage epic scraps to get our blast cannons or grenades to T4+.

    You are currently 4k infamy using an Explosive Cannon. I don't believe you were ever 400-600 infamy above that... :p

    I topped out at 4.4k and tended to stay around 4.2k. Last season I fell to 3500 (after nerf) and struggled to barely get back to 4k before end of last season. I attribute the recent climb to obtaining T4 upgrades on my alternate weapons and gained captain levels.

    Ah gotcha. Didn't really pay attention cuz we could never fleet. I'll catch you soon enough. ;)

    I do think that a lot of people are overestimating the nerf to Explosive Cannon. It was definitely a decent nerf, but the weapon is still very usable. Compared to the frost nerf, it is pretty tame.
