When should I upgrade my shooter from Mk4 to Mk5?

And if I even need to?
Currently at Captain Level 34 (will be Level 35 once the latest round of training finishes in 2 days and 20 hours!!). Usual equipment loadout in screenshot below.


I have stashed away 2 x Rare Ex Cannon and 2 x Rare Sniper Cannon on the other boats (to save inventory space) and just slowly grinding to Tier V training on Bhurt.

Right now, I am comfortable playing in the 1200-1400 infamy range, and as a largely casual player, I don't mind the wins/losses so much however I do get the urge to want to contribute more for guild quests and this would be better handled with a Mark5 with an additional weapon slot.

I have upgraded my Fixer to Mark 5 and the 3 healing items equipped has contributed greatly to my ability to heal and win battles. Not so sure on the Shooter though, thus the hesitation. I have read elsewhere on the forum that players could be potentially penalised for using higher level boats but as it is, I am usually the lone Mark4 in a team of Mark5s (and more often than not, I am hitting harder than the Mark 5s).

Hi there! I think it'd be good for you to switch your low level epics for higher level rares, at least until you have 3 of the same epic item
If you're facing only Mk5, nothing is going to change on matchmaking. The only thing that'll happen is that your boat is going to become a bit slower and with more HP

 

Try using ballpark instead big berta.
If you want to help with guild missions you will need that extra slot and HP. You should be able to endure more and deal more dmg (for missions of course).

 

You should definitiely upgrade! You have enough gear and probably skill to get up to 1600s and higher, which means more battle rewards and season rewards which leads to faster progress which leads to leveling up which leads to going higher in infamy which leads to more battle rewards. So much ranting

 

On my speeder my target is R40, E30 gear before I upgrade.

 

First upgrade ur railgun. To replace Berta and then upgrade

 

My Ballpark at L12 is woefully underpowered (300+ damage vs 780+ for Big Bertha), not sure if I want to expend the parts to upgrade it past L20 (I have a spare) which even then, it will still be underpowered.
True that I will have more HP and deal more damage at Mark 5, but not so keen to lose speed. Waiting for RNGods to bless me with an Epic Turbo to upgrade as I have had it a L10 for the longest time (and Rovio keeps tempting me with special offers but at $49.99 prices ... fuggetaboutit!)

 

Hmmmm I am not a fan of the railgun as I seem to miss 3 out of 4 shots ahahaha, and would prefer to have one mortar to shoot over walls. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation and I will still keep upgrading the railgun, just that Dr Buzzkill training is not very well developed and I am grinding other training.

 

Using railgun at first seems hard but after couple of matches you will get the hang of it and you might actually come to love it is a great tool for survivability in the bay where everyone has a op tesla shield.
Berta is good but after a while it loses its charm due to low projectile speed if you want to lob something go with missiles but you don't have those with you now

 

Railgun is for late game players usually. You can start leveling it, but you definitely don't need it now
